Wireless Paging System for Kamp Dels Campgrounds

THE CHALLENGE

Kamp Dels, one of Minnesota’s most popular family campgrounds, spans over 80 acres along the North Shore of Lake Sakatah. Following one of the most severe weather events in Minnesota history—when 48 tornadoes struck in a single day—the campground owner sought a reliable camp paging system to enhance safety and communication across the entire property.

The new wireless camp paging system needed to provide flexible coverage for all campground zones, allowing staff to broadcast messages to a single area, multiple areas, or the entire facility at once. Additionally, the system required full wireless operation to ensure dependable communication without underground cabling, as well as easy expandability to add or relocate speakers as the campground grows.

THE SOLUTION

Visiplex provided a wireless camp paging system specifically designed to meet Kamp Dels’ communication and safety requirements. The solution included a wireless paging base station located at the main office for centralized control, paired with a high-power RF transmitter to ensure complete radio coverage across the 80-acre campground.

The system featured 10 wireless outdoor PA speaker controllers, each connected to two high-power horn speakers (a total of 20 speakers), delivering clear, reliable overhead voice messaging throughout all campground areas.

The wireless base station also included an integrated scheduling module, enabling automatic activation of pre-programmed tone and voice announcements at designated times. This capability helped staff synchronize daily camp activities, such as check-ins, meal times, and recreational events.

Because the day camp paging system was fully wireless, it eliminated the need for expensive underground cabling between speaker zones. Each PA controller required only a standard AC power outlet, allowing for quick installation, easy relocation, and low ongoing maintenance.

THE RESULTS

The wireless camp paging system installed at Kamp Dels greatly improved camper safety, staff coordination, and overall communication efficiency across the 80-acre facility. Designed for large outdoor environments, the system provided dependable coverage, ensuring that important messages, alerts, and announcements reached every area of the campground instantly.
