WIRELESS EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

A CASE STUDY

Wireless Emergency Notification System for ADP Headquarters Office Building

Wireless Emergency Notification System

THE CHALLENGE

ADP, Inc., a global leader in cloud-based human capital management (HCM) solutions, required a robust on-premise emergency notification system to enhance safety and communication across its 375,000-square-foot headquarters in Roseland, NJ. The objective was to implement a wireless emergency alert solution to support security protocols and protect employees and executive staff in the event of intruders, active shooter incidents, or other critical threats. The system needed to provide reliable, facility-wide coverage with the following core capabilities:

  • Reliable live and pre-recorded, multi-lingual voice paging to all zones
  • Instant emergency alert broadcasts for staff safety
  • Built-in SMS capabilities for rapid alerts to key executives and on-site security teams
  • Wireless indoor and outdoor PA speakers for full coverage
  • Integration with LED message boards and visual alert devices for ADA compliance and enhanced visibility

  • Full power backup to all system components due to unstable power grid.
  • Scalable, modular architecture for future expansion without re-wiring

THE SOLUTION

Wireless Emergency Notification System

Visiplex’s wireless emergency notification system was implemented using strategically placed wireless paging base stations. The primary base station was installed at the main entrance security desk for daytime operations, while a secondary base station at the alternate entrance supported after-hours activities.

The wireless emergency alert system included a network of indoor wireless audio-visual PA speakers and high-powered outdoor wireless horn speakers. These devices were installed throughout key areas of the facility, including smoking and break zones, muster points, and parking lots, ensuring comprehensive voice coverage and safety communications.

To improve visibility and meet ADA compliance, multi-color beacon lights were installed across the facility, providing clear visual alerts during emergencies. The system also incorporated a Visiplex VNS4400 SMS controller to deliver instant text message alerts to designated mobile recipients, including executive staff and on-site security personnel.

All components of the Visiplex system featured built-in power backup for continued functionality during power outages, ensuring uninterrupted emergency communication capabilities.

In an emergency, the system allows for live voice paging with real-time updates or automatic playback of pre-recorded emergency voice messages, each tailored to specific events such as intruders, active shooter alerts, or facility lockdowns.

During daily use, the system supports routine announcements while the integrated LED message boards display synchronized time and high-visibility alerts, reinforcing internal communication across the office environment.

Despite the challenges of installing in a 24/7 operational office with restricted access, the wireless emergency notification system was fully installed by Visiplex technicians without disrupting business operations. Final system testing, commissioning, and staff training were completed to ensure reliable and seamless performance.

THE RESULTS

Optimized Wireless Emergency Notification System Performance – The wireless audio-visual paging system was successfully implemented across the ADP headquarter facility, significantly improving site-wide safety, operational efficiency, and communication. The solution enhanced emergency readiness while delivering the following key capabilities:

  • Live public address voice announcements can be initiated facility-wide from two separate locations

  • Enhanced visual alerts using multicolor beacon lights, ensuring ADA and hearing-impaired compliance

  • Customizable, multi-lingual, pre-recorded voice messages for diverse workforce communication

  • SMS messaging provides instant text message alerts to designated mobile recipients

  • Full backup power support for all system components, ensuring uninterrupted operation during power outages
  • Modular, expandable system design allowing quick addition or relocation of components without new wiring
