Wireless Emergency Alert System for Lyft Headquarters Office Building

Office Building Emergency Alert System

THE CHALLENGE

Lyft, Inc., a leading American ride-hailing and mobility company, required a dependable on-premise emergency alert system to enhance safety and intruder response protocols at its 25,000-square-foot headquarters in San Francisco, CA. The office building emergency alert system needed to provide rapid, facility-wide notifications during critical situations such as intruder alerts, active shooter events, and other emergencies. To meet Lyft’s security objectives, the system was expected to deliver the following essential capabilities:

  • Reliable live and pre-recorded, multi-lingual voice paging to all zones

  • Instant emergency audio-visual alert broadcasts for staff safety
  • Integration with visual alert devices for ADA compliance and enhanced visibility
  • Full power backup to all system components due to unstable power grid.
  • Scalable, modular architecture for future expansion without re-wiring

THE SOLUTION

Office Building Emergency Alert System

Visiplex’s wireless office building emergency alert system was successfully deployed at Lyft’s San Francisco headquarters using a centralized wireless paging base station and strategically placed emergency pull stations throughout the facility. Each pull station was pre-programmed to instantly trigger a specific, pre-recorded emergency voice message over the building’s PA system and activate corresponding color-coded beacon lights, providing clear, visual identification for events such as Lockdown, Evacuation, Severe Weather, and Fire.

The system included a network of wireless audio-visual PA speakers that delivered reliable, intelligible voice alerts across all areas of the building. Integrated multi-color beacon lights enhanced visibility and ensured ADA compliance, making alerts easily noticeable even in noisy or high-traffic environments.

All Visiplex components featured built-in battery backup, ensuring continuous emergency communication during power outages or electrical disruptions.

Beyond emergency use, the system also supports daily routine paging and facility-wide announcements, helping improve internal communication and operational efficiency.

Thanks to its modular, wireless design, Lyft’s in-house technical team was able to complete installation without the need for complex wiring or major infrastructure changes.

THE RESULTS

Optimized Wireless Office Building Emergency Alert System Performance – The wireless audio-visual alert system was successfully implemented across the Lyft headquarter facility, significantly improving site-wide safety, operational efficiency, and communication. The solution enhanced emergency readiness while delivering the following key capabilities:

  • Live public address voice announcements can be initiated facility-wide
  • Enhanced visual alerts using multicolor beacon lights, ensuring ADA and hearing-impaired compliance
  • Customizable, multi-lingual, pre-recorded voice messages for instant staff alerts
  • Full backup power support for all system components, ensuring uninterrupted operation during power outages
  • Modular, expandable system design allowing quick addition or relocation of components without new wiring
