CAMPGROUND INTERCOM SYSTEM

A CASE STUDY

Campground Wireless 2-Way Intercom and PA System for Camp For All Foundation

Campground Intercom & PA System

THE CHALLENGE

The Camp For All Foundation operates a 100-acre barrier-free camp in Burton, Texas, serving children and adults with special needs. The facility manager sought to replace an aging 15-year-old intercom system with a modern wireless communication solution offering expanded features to enhance safety, coordination, and overall efficiency. The new system needed to be fully wireless to prevent cable deterioration caused by underground moisture, while providing an all-in-one solution for two-way communication, overhead paging, and background music. Additional required capabilities for the new campground intercom system included:

  • Integration with existing two-way radios used by staff.
  • Over-the-phone paging access for remote communication.
  • Solar-powered operation in select outdoor areas.
  • Simple self-installation by staff to reduce installation costs.

THE SOLUTION

Campground Intercom & PA System

Visiplex provided a custom wireless intercom and outdoor PA paging system designed specifically to meet Camp For All’s unique operational and communication needs. The solution featured a wireless paging base station installed at the main office for centralized system control, paired with a high-power RF transmitter to ensure complete radio coverage across the 100-acre campground. The installation included 50 wireless two-way intercom stations equipped with wall-mounted PA speakers and 38 wireless PA horn speakers for wide-area public announcements. Each unit featured a built-in FM radio receiver for background music, with five solar-powered speakers installed in remote areas without AC power access.

To provide comprehensive functionality, the campground intercom & PA system also included: A telephone line interface for overhead paging from any phone, a two-way radio interface allowing camp personnel to send instant live voice messages, an FM radio transmitter for streaming background music throughout the camp, and a wireless controller for activating the facility’s outdoor siren system.

Because the entire system operated completely wirelessly, there was no need for costly trenching or underground cabling between camp zones. Each intercom and speaker required only an AC outlet or a compact solar panel, allowing Camp For All’s own maintenance staff to perform a fast, cost-effective installation with minimal disruption.

THE RESULTS

The wireless campground intercom and PA system installed at Camp For All has greatly improved camper safety, operational efficiency, and overall communication across the 100-acre facility. Purpose-built for large, high-traffic outdoor environments, the system enhanced both daily coordination and emergency responsiveness for staff and visitors alike. Key capabilities and benefits delivered by the campground intercom system include:

  • Two-way voice communication can now be initiated between any campground area and the main office, ensuring quick and efficient coordination.
  • The main office can instantly connect with any campsite location for real-time voice communication or group announcements.
  • Emergency alerts and daily announcements can be broadcast from the main office to a specific zone or the entire campground.
  • Overhead paging can be easily performed through standard telephones or staff two-way radios for added convenience.
  • Background music is distributed throughout the campground via the wireless PA system, enhancing the visitor experience.
  • The system is fully expandable and modular, allowing new PA speakers or intercom stations to be added, moved, or reconfigured as needed with minimal effort.
