Erie County Fair is the fourth largest county fair in North America, located in Hamburg, NY, and often drawing over one million in attendance. Garry Steiger, the program coordinator, contacted Visiplex for a weather alert and Public Address system to communicate with all visitors during emergencies and daily activities. The main requirements were: the system needed to provide complete voice communication to indoor and outdoor areas, cover all fairground areas, be expandable so that more speakers could be added later, have remote access via dial-in phone, and be easy enough that the facility electrician could maintain it.
Visiplex’s solution to meet the requirements of Erie County Fair consisted of a VS4810 wireless paging base station for the control room, VS101-40 high-power transmitter for complete facility-wide RF coverage, 18 VNS2210 indoor PA speaker controllers, each driving one or two VNS2083 high power PA wall speakers for full indoors voice coverage, 15 VNS2200 outdoor PA speaker controllers, each driving a VNS2088 high-power horn speaker to provide facility-wide outdoor voice messaging.
The VS4810 base station included a VS3042 NOAA weather radio interface to provide automated local weather warning announcements to play over the wireless PA system, instructing visitors to seek indoor shelter. In addition, the VS4820 included an integrated VS3003 option, which provides dial-in telephone access to broadcast daily event schedule announcements, public-serving messaging (lost child announcements), and instant overhead paging capabilities.
The proposed system is fully wireless, eliminating costly wiring between different fairground areas and needing only an AC outlet for each controller. The total cost of the complete system was approximately $20,000.
