FOOD MANUFACTURING EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM

A CASE STUDY

Wireless Emergency Alert System for Refresco Beverage Manufacturing Facilities

Food Manufacturing Emergency Alert System

THE CHALLENGE

Refresco, a leading independent bottler of beverages for retailers and branded drink companies, required a robust on-premise emergency alert system to strengthen safety and communication throughout its two 175,000-square-foot facilities in Carlisle, Ohio and San Antonio, Texas. The objective was to implement a scalable, wireless paging solution that could support routine daily voice announcements as well as real-time audio-visual emergency notifications. Each facility’s paging and alert system needed to ensure dependable, facility-wide coverage with the following core capabilities:

  • Reliable live and pre-recorded, multi-lingual voice paging to all zones

  • Integration with LED message boards and visual alert devices for ADA compliance and enhanced visibility

  • Wall-Mounted, panic buttons across the facility for instant public alerts

  • Full power backup to all system components due to unstable power grid.
  • Scalable, modular architecture for future expansion without re-wiring

THE SOLUTION

Food Manufacturing Emergency Alert System

Visiplex’s wireless food manufacturing emergency alert system was implemented using a centralized wireless paging base station located in the facility’s main office. The system monitored multiple wall-mounted wireless panic buttons, strategically installed across the production floor to enable instant activation of emergency alerts.

The solution included both indoor and outdoor wireless PA speakers, installed throughout the plant—including key safety zones such as break areas, smoking zones, muster points, and parking lots, ensuring complete facility-wide audio coverage. To improve visibility and maintain ADA compliance, the system also featured LED message boards and multi-color beacon lights, providing clear visual alerts during emergency events.

Facility-wide audio-visual alerts can be initiated directly from the wireless paging base station or by triggering a panic button, allowing for fast, localized response during incidents such as equipment failure, chemical leaks, or workplace injuries.

During daily operations, the system is used to broadcast live voice announcements and shift change notifications, while the LED message boards display synchronized time and important production messages with high visibility throughout the facility.

Thanks to its modular wireless design, the Visiplex food manufacturing emergency alert system was quickly deployed without the need for disruptive wiring or trenching. Final system testing, commissioning, and on-site staff training were conducted by Visiplex technicians to ensure a reliable, seamless operation.

THE RESULTS

Optimized Wireless Food Manufacturing Emergency Alert System – The fully integrated wireless audio-visual emergency alert system was successfully deployed across both Refresco Beverages food manufacturing facilities, significantly improving site-wide safety, emergency preparedness, and real-time communication with staff and visitors. This scalable solution streamlined operations while delivering the following key capabilities:

  • Instant audio-visual emergency alerts triggered by wall-mounted wireless panic buttons
  • Live voice paging and pre-recorded emergency messages for specific threats

  • Wireless PA speakers and high-powered horn speakers for clear coverage throughout all public and restricted areas

  • LED message boards and multi-color beacon lights for high-visibility alerts and ADA compliance

  • Built-in battery backup for all components to ensure uninterrupted communication during power outages

  • Modular, wireless system design allowing for easy future expansion without the need for complex wiring
