AUDIO-VISUAL PAGING SYSTEM

A CASE STUDY

Audio-Visual Paging System for CVS Warehouses and Distribution Centers

Audio-Visual Paging System

THE CHALLENGE

CVS Health, Inc., a leading retail pharmacy and healthcare provider, required a robust audio-visual paging system to improve communication across three large retail distribution centers located on the East and West Coasts—totaling over 2.1 million square feet. The objective was to implement a scalable, wireless warehouse paging solution that could support routine daily voice announcements as well as real-time audio-visual emergency notifications. Each facility’s paging and alert system needed to ensure dependable, facility-wide coverage with the following core capabilities:

  • Multi-lingual voice alerts—live or pre-recorded—delivered to targeted speaker zones for effective emergency communication
  • Instant emergency alert broadcasts for staff safety
  • Automated break bell and shift change notifications delivered to specific facility zones based on a customizable schedule
  • Integrated SMS messaging capabilities for instant emergency notifications to management and safety personnel
  • Two-way radio integration to enables security personnel to remotely access the audio-visual paging system for live public announcements and emergency alerts.
  • Wireless indoor and outdoor PA speakers for full coverage
  • Integration with LED message boards and visual alert devices for ADA compliance and enhanced visibility

  • Full power backup to all system components due to unstable power grid.
  • Scalable, modular architecture for future expansion without re-wiring

THE SOLUTION

Warehouse Paging System

Visiplex’s wireless audio-visual paging system was implemented using multiple wireless paging base stations strategically located at two main management offices as backup and redundancy. The system included both indoor and outdoor wireless PA speakers, installed throughout the facility and in critical areas such as smoking and break zones, muster points, and parking lots. To enhance visibility and ensure ADA compliance, wireless LED message boards and multi-color beacon lights were also installed across the facility for visual alerts.

During daily operations, the PA speakers broadcast scheduled break bell and shift change alerts, while the LED message boards display synchronized time and important facility messages with high visibility.

All three sites presented challenging installation conditions due to restricted access at 24/7 warehouse operations. These large-scale distribution centers featured floor-to-ceiling shelving and limited aisle access caused by continuous forklift and robotic activity, making traditional wired PA system installation costly and highly disruptive.

Thanks to its modular wireless design, the Visiplex audio-visual paging system was successfully installed by Visiplex technicians at all three sites, overcoming these access limitations. Final system testing, commissioning, and on-site staff training were also completed to ensure reliable, seamless operation.

THE RESULTS

Optimized Warehouse Audio-Visual Paging System Performance – The wireless audio-visual paging system was successfully implemented across all three CVS facilities, significantly improving site-wide safety, operational efficiency, and communication. The solution enhanced daily workflows and emergency readiness while delivering the following key capabilities:

  • Live public address voice announcements can be initiated facility-wide from two separate office base stations
  • Enhanced visual alerts using LED message boards and beacon lights, ensuring ADA and hearing-impaired compliance
  • Customizable, multi-lingual, pre-recorded voice messages for diverse workforce communication

  • Supports two-way radio access and emergency SMS alerts to on-site security teams
  • User-programmable break bell and shift change alerts for streamlined scheduling
  • Full backup power support for all system components, ensuring uninterrupted operation during power outages
  • Modular, expandable system design allowing quick addition or relocation of components without new wiring
